Johann Sebastian Bach

Sonata No. 1 in G Minor for
Solo Violin, BWV 1001
Stefan Milenkovich, violin

Jauchzet Gott in allen Landen!
BWV 51

Nun komm, der Heiden Heiland,
BWV 61

Strongly expressing French and Italian influences, JS Bach's Cantatas BWV 51 and BWV 61 reflect the operatic style considered modern at the time. Cantata BWV 51 is fiery and jubilant. The most popular of Bach's solo cantatas, it is scored for trumpet, two violins, viola, and continuo.

From its famous aria, Öffne Dich, Mein Ganzes Herzen, to the opening chorus in French Overture style, Cantata BWV 61 is an outstanding example of Bach's mastery as a composer of cantatas.

The Rev. Roger Digges will deliver an ecumenical homily reflecting on the texts
of the two cantatas.

Ticket Price: $26 adult/$20 student/senior
